FAQ

Where are you located

Raleigh Drum Lessons is located two miles west of Crabtree Valley Mall in the Oak Park Neighborhood which is located between Hwy 70 and Duraleigh Rd., in Raleigh, NC.

What times are available for lessons?

Raleigh Drum Lessons is open Monday – Friday 9 AM to 8 PM, and Saturday 10 AM to 3 PM.

Lessons are offered six days a week on a first come, first served basis. Some dates/times may not be available due to the current roster of the instructor.

What is the best age to start taking drum lessons?

I have found that the best age to start taking lessons is six years old and up, due to maturity level and attention span. A half hour can be quite a long time for a five year old or younger to focus.

How long are the lessons?

This depends on the level of the student. Generally, a half hour each week for beginners, and an hour every week or every other week, depending on the availability of the student.

What books and materials are needed for drum lessons?

You will need five items to get started:

1. a practice pad or snare drum
2. drumsticks (Vic Firth 5A, suggested)
3. a spiral notebook of blank manuscript paper
4. a metronome or a metronome app for iPhone/iPod/iPad
5. Teaching Rhythm by Joel Rothman.

Is there a registration fee or contract for lessons?

No. There are no fees or contracts at Raleigh Drum Lessons. You pay your tuition up front for the month. This will secure your time slot (which will be an agreed upon day and time). You renew each month by paying your tuition on your scheduled day during the first week of the month.

Why should we hire Raleigh Drum lessons as opposed to going to a music store or taking online lessons?

At Raleigh Drum Lessons, you will receive the highest level of teaching available in the RTP area. The concepts that I use to teach new students require less practice time and yield faster results.

Some of the concepts I teach are practiced at MIT, Berklee College of Music, and Guitar Institute of Technology. Very few instructors, if any, are using this concept for teaching drums.

How much do you charge and how does the payment work?

30-minute lessons are $30 and 60-minute lessons are $60.

If you miss a lesson, you will be charged for that lesson unless I am notified of the absence at the beginning of the month. If you know you will be going to be out of town or absent on a specific day, you will prorate the amount of the check at the beginning of the month.

If you miss a lesson which has already been paid for due to sickness, emergency, inclement weather, or an act of God, the lesson has been paid for and there will be no make-up or refund. If the instructor misses a lesson, the student will be entitled to a make-up lesson.

Payment is expected at the beginning of the month for the entire month. I except cash or check. In the past I have used Paypal and Venmo, but unfortunately both are now charging a service fee to the recipient of payment. If you would like to use either service, the service fee must be included each month with your tuition payment. Paypal states that the fee for each transaction is $0.30 USD, plus 2.9% of the amount that is received. Venmo states that on or after November 6, 2018, a fee of 1% of the transfer amount (minimum fee $0.25) will be deducted from the transfer amount for each Instant Transfer.
